Big Thank You

The committee would like to extend a special thanks to those people who have gone beyond the call of duty in assisisting us to meet our objectives on time and to a incredibly high standard.

This is with specific reference to the significant financial contribution by our kit sponsors: Marine Co UK Ltd, The Gordon Arms Hotel, Roslin Building Services, Bogsbank Engineering and R. Fraser Plumbing and Heating. Furthermore to the contribution by Graeme Little (Electra), Donald Fraser and Stuart Dowers in fitting out all the electrics, plumbing and ground workings respectively required seemingly endless hours of hard work. History

Linton Hotspur FC as far as records available state dates back to the 1920's, making it one of the Border's oldest amateur clubs.

Built on strong community principles and traditions the club thrived throughout the middle 20th century, operating in the Border, Lothian and now defunct Peeblesshire amateur leagues. The latter included teams such as Stobo, Walkerburn and Carlops displaying the strength of football in the surrounding areas.

The Hotspur, as they they were locally known played in several locations throughout the village, namely the school playing field where they are now located, Broomlee Camp and the Pantiles which is now Lyne Park. Facilities, or lack of money were a constant burden on the club over the years and at the time of dispersion the club had raised  a not inconsiderable amount of £9000 for a new pavilion.

Unfortuantely the hard work of the committee  throughout the the century was never realized and the club disbanded in 1971, after a heavy 12-2 defeat to Ferranti FC. The latter went onto to become Meadowbank Thistle who in turn be came Livingston. There after they could not raise a team. The funds amassed were contributed to another community projects.

A number of locals still residing in the village feature prominently in the Hotspur's History books, namely the Bell family, Neil Inglis and his late father Jimmy who was the the Honorary President, Charlie Smith, Charlie and Kenny Gray to name a few.

On the 8th October 2008 a meeting was called in The Gordon Arms Hotel to gauge the interest locally in resurrecting Linton Hotspur FC. From that date onwards the committee, spurred on by the traditions  and history associated with the village and club alike, have not looked back.

A number of hurdles have been negotiated in a determined fashion since the reformation, namely a lease over an area of ground from SBC for the changing rooms, a successful planning application and raising of funds in the region of 15,000 to satisfy the objectives set by the club.

The blueprint of the club involves the incorporation of the excellent youth set up already underway in the village and establishment of a senior team for those youngsters to aspire to. Through time it is hoped the club will be operating at range of age groups, engaging as many groups within the village as possible.

The club is very much in it's infancy  but the committee hope that the base upon which it has been established and the strong links onto the local community will see Linton Hotspur FC prosper well into the future.

The Committee would like to thank you for visiting the site and hope to see you at Moor Road cheering on the Hotspur!
